the number “2”, “a Pair”

Today, as I was walking home, I was thinking about why so many things in this world come in pairs.

We have two hands and two feet. We have two eyes, two ears, to nostrils. What is the significance of the number 2 and why do we have two of everything?

I was thinking about this because I was thinking about why we are so attracted (as human beings) to things that are symmetric. I started thinking about what the world would be like if we weren’t symmetric and so I noticed that everything comes in twos.

Everything that is this world forces us to have two of everything.

Gravity forces us to have two feet so we can balance… we could have more, but maybe two is all we need.

Light forces us to have two eyes because if we only had one, we would never be able to tell how far something is from us… that distance between one eye and the other— that’s what makes everything look 3D. The concept of having two ears is the same— we would never be able to tell from which direction a sound is coming from without two ears.

Is this entry stupid?

So what does the number 2 symbolize? Perhaps necessary simplicity… of “just” fulfilling a purpose. Maybe it is the numerical meaning of the word “enough.”

Just a thought.

Sometimes delicacy  can be so beautiful.
The areas on the human body— at the knees, the elbows, the finger tips, the ankles, and the toes— where the skin is a slightly pinker shade.
There are so many hard elements in the world fighting to get one’s attention. Things that are delicate and subtle are elements found only by those who have the Eye.
